Paan has originated from the Sanskrit word ‘Parna’ which means leaf. It has a history of 5000 years as it has not only ruled the Indian food culture but is also consumed throughout Southeast Asia, South Asia, and East Asia. Found in Ayurveda for its medicinal values and health benefits, paan leaf/betel leaf is good for digestion, headaches, is used to treat diabetes, and aids in weightloss. As an after-food mouth freshener, it contains vitamin C, thia-mine, niacin, riboflavin, and carotene. Paan is a common treat in many Indian households and is found in various restaurants, shopping centers, and markets, across the country. However, it has for long been associated with tobacco, dissuading others from its consumption.
Surat-based Paan Casa is India’s first completely Tobacco and Nicotine Free ‘Family paan café’. It serves traditional and authentic paans, beverages, chai, coffee, and food developed around paan. What differentiates Paan Casa from the other players in this market is the café’s decision to eliminate tobacco/nicotine from its Business Model to make it a complete Family Café.

All raw materials of Paan Casa arrive from a single warehouse to control the highest quality of our products, and its Paan leaves come from the same farm. All Cafes of Paan Casa have to follow the company’s SOPs to maintain Quality and Health standards which are being monitored by regular auditing.

Paan Casa is not a typical Paan business, but a unique F&B business, built around the health-based product - “PAAN.” Today Paan Casa has various business models running in various cities, Big Size cafes, mid-size cafes/express counters. The company’s goal is to give all its customers the highest quality customer experience and value of money.
The Journey
Paan Casa was incepted in 2016, and doing business in the Paan segment with the “No Tobacco” policy wasn’t an easy task for the company as it wasn’t easy to gain customers. Paan Casa constantly had to run campaigns to spread awareness about health issues caused by Tobacco, which took them about six months to penetrate the market. However, owing to their Unique - Out of Box business model, Paan Casa gradually opened its second and third outlet over the years, and today the company has outlets in three countries, with more than 10 locations and is in the process of opening a few more by end of this year.
“Currently, we have about 17 more outlets in the pipeline. By end of March 2022, we are looking to start a total of 50 outlets pan-India. We will also start with our online retailing, soon,” concludes Mehul.
