The growing power demand in Telangana, the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is all set to add another 800 MW by establishing a new power unit at Jaipur plant soon. SCCL is expected to float tenders for the power plant later this
month and begin construction from March this year. SCCL had already set up 1,200 MW (two units of 600 MW each) at Jaipur in Mancherial district in 2016, which created a record in generating power with 91% plant load factor (PLF), the top among the thermal power plants in the country.
The super critical coal-based thermal power unit would help the state meet the power demand, which has been growing every year, senior officials said. In December, the state recorded a peak power demand of 14,000 MW, which was just 6,000 MW in 2014 around the same time.
Officials of SCCL said the existing 1,200 MW plant produced about 52,000 million units, which is 12% of the total power requirement of the state. "The power plant crossed 100% PLF eight times in the last six years," an official said.
