India produced 893.08 million tonnes of coal total in 2022–2023 compared to 778.19 in 2021–2022; this is a 14.78% increase. In the current fiscal year,
the government wants to increase production to 1,012 million tonnes. Coal India Limited (CIL) has produced 703.21 million tonnes more over the past five years compared to the 606.89 million tonnes it produced in 2018–2019, a gain of 15.9%.
Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has demonstrated growth, going from 64.40 million tonnes in 2018–19 to 67.14 million tonnes in 2022–23, an increase of 4.3%.
With an increase of 113.7% from 57.43 million tonnes in 2018–19 to 122.72 million tonnes in 2022–23, captive and other mines have also surpassed other producers in terms of coal production.
