“In my current role within the coir industry, I encounter various business challenges and have devised strategies to overcome them effectively. Our industry is closely tied to the climate, making it subject to external factors that can impact production and demand. The coir industry primarily involves processing coconut husks, resulting in coir fiber and coir pith/Coco peat as the main products, each with its distinct applications. Our primary focus is on Coco peat production, which serves as a soil alternative in agriculture, presenting a unique set of challenges and opportunities”, highlights Anandharaju Muthusamy, Founder, Anandh International Peat Industries.

“Having started our venture in 2021, my background in engineering and years spent in industrial automation roles across Singapore, Qatar and Kuwait provided me with valuable skills and insights. Transitioning into the agricultural sector, I honed my expertise in processing coconut husks into Cocopeat and other agro-based products”, he adds.

Anandharaju Muthusamy, further states that one of the initial challenges was identifying the untapped potential within the coir industry. Understanding this, he recognized numerous opportunities beyond agriculture, such as coir mats, coir mattings, coir wood, coir geo-textiles, coir garden articles, coir ropes, coir handicrafts and coco lawn which many are unaware of. Today, the company has been actively developing innovative products to diversify its offerings. During his time in Singapore, Anandharaju observed that governments worldwide were promoting agricultural schemes, emphasizing the use of locally manufactured agricultural products due to limited arable land. This drove the need for soil alternatives, and he saw the potential for coir-based products to flourish in this context.

India's increasing agricultural exports and the growing global population point to significant growth in the agricultural industry, encompassing both agricultural products and agri feeds. Furthermore, many countries are encouraging sustainable agricultural practices such as hydroponics and greenhouses, which rely on controlled environments for higher yields. Cocopeat has emerged as a preferred choice among farmers worldwide for these practices. Cocopeat has also been used for landscaping and animal bedding applications. We cater to clients across India and engage in exports, contributing to rural employment and elevating living standards in our region.

“My professional journey has been marked by significant milestones. Leaving a well-paying job to pursue my vision in the coir industry was a pivotal decision. Establishing a state-of-the-art manufacturing unit and obtaining essential certifications were critical achievements. Additionally, empowering the rural population through employment opportunities and adhering to international quality standards have opened doors to exporting our products globally", he further adds.
