Skoda Auto, the Czech carmaker, is set to enter the mass market of electric vehicles in India and is actively exploring various options, including potential partnerships with local companies to achieve economies of scale. The company plans to make a foray into the electric vehicle segment in India this year and is currently in the testing phase for its premium electric SUV, Enyaq.
Martin Jahn, a member of Skoda Auto's Board of Management for Sales and Marketing, stated that they are considering all possibilities and aiming to introduce a volume of electric cars to the Indian market. However, specific details cannot be disclosed as decisions have not been finalized. The company is evaluating the best options for India and expressing a desire to participate in the growth of the electric vehicle market in the country.
When questioned about potential partnerships with Indian companies for the mass market electric vehicle venture, Jahn mentioned that they are exploring all options for entry into the volume electric market. The importance of having a local partner is being strategically considered, and various partnership models, including going alone or collaborating, are under exploration.
This move aligns with the broader initiatives within the Volkswagen Group, of which Skoda Auto is a part. Recently, the Volkswagen Group and Mahindra & Mahindra announced their first supply agreement for electric vehicle components as part of their joint vision for collaboration in electric mobility.
