9NOVEMBER 2024L&T SECURES 'SIGNIFICANT' PACT FOR INTERNATIONAL NUCLEAR FUSION INITIATIVEASSAM'S SOLAR PROJECT TO BOOST GRID STABILITY WITH BATTERY STORAGELarsen & Toubro (L&T) announced they have secured a significant contract from the ITER Organization to implement advanced welding technology for their nuclear fusion project in France. L&T classifies a `major order' as one valued between Rs 1,000 crore and Rs 2,500 crore. The infrastructure major mentioned in a filing to BSE, "L&T has won a new order from the France-headquartered intergovernmental body the ITER Organization for deployment of critical advanced technologies for assembly of ports and complex parts with the vacuum vessel at the world's largest nuclear fusion project at Cadarache in Southern France."The company inked a treaty with the ITER Organization for technical partnership on the development. The ITER Organization intends to display that fusion energy can be cast for peaceful resolves by showing its scientific and technological feasibility. India, South Korea, Japan, Russia, China, the European Union, and the United States are all part of the ITER Organization as member countries.L&T is a notable Indian conglomerate with wide-ranging global operations in construction, technology, manufacturing, engineering, and financial services.L&T enhances its reputation and status through the provision of EPC solutions for executing major industrial and infrastructure projects from conception to completion on a turnkey basis with single-source accountability. requirements. The Asian Development Bankannounced that a solar project in Karbi Anglong district will build a grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) facility with a capacity of 500 MW.The ADB has granted a loan of USD 434.25 million to enhance renewable energy capacity and enhance energy security in Assam. The storage system will be created through a partnership between APDCL and ONGC. Tripura Electricity Corporation Ltd."Addressing the renewable energy capacity shortage in Assam is crucial to meet growing demand and reduce dependency on fossil fuels, this project will help Assam develop a renewable energy road map and increase its solar energy capacity to achieve its target of 3,000 megawatts (MW) by 2030" said Jiwan Acharya, ADB Principal Energy Specialist .ADB will assist in drawing private sector investments into renewable energy by enhancing the state's PPP framework and building its ability to oversee renewable energy PPP projects. The project aims to create a public-private partnership agreement for building a 250 MW solar PV plant in the Karbi Anglong district.Replacing overhead power lines with aerial covered conductor cable and installing new distribution transformers will enhance electricity distribution in the solar PV facility and surrounding rural areas. The solar project in Assam will help in creating a battery energy storage system connected to the grid, aimed at maintaining grid stability and addressing peak power
