NOVEMBER 20248INDIAN GOVERNMENT TO PUSH SELECT MANUFACTURERS FOR GREEN ENERGY MOVEMENTJSW BOARD APPROVES PPA TO PROCURE RENEWABLE POWER FOR ONGOING OPERATIONSThe government is planning to introduce an Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) for solar cells on the lines of module manufacturing to boost JSW Steel announced that its Board has approved a significant Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to procure 1,637 MW of renewable power for its operations across Vijayanagar, Dolvi, Salem, and Anjar. Of this, 375 MW has already been commissioned, and an additional 580 MW is set to be commissioned by March 2025.India's transition towards green energy. The government is aiming to make the second list (List II) under the ALMM for solar PV cells effective April 1, 2026.The government introduced the ALMM order (List I) in 2019 for solar modules to boost the manufacturing and usage of made-in-India solar panels. It was made mandatory to source PV modules from models and manufacturers included in the ALMM List I.According to an office memorandum of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the ALMM order dated January 2, 2019, specified models and manufacturers of solar PV modules, whereas List-II will identify and include models and manufacturers of solar PV cells. However, to date, List II of solar PV cells has not been issued because the installed capacity of solar PV cells in the country was lower than the demand, the government document said."With installed capacity of solar PV cells in the country expected to increase substantially in the next two years, it has been proposed to issue List-II of solar PV cells under ALMM, which shall be effective from April 1, 2026," according to the draft amendment to ALMM order for implementation of ALMM for Solar PV cells. The Board has also approved further procurement for 600 MW of hybrid renewable energy (comprising 200 MW solar and 400 MW wind) at Dolvi, 60 MW at Salem, and 210 MW at JSW Steel Coated Products, bringing the total renewable energy capacity under procurement to 2,507 MW. Vijayanagar Plant: The Hot Strip Mill of a 5 MTPA project at Vijayanagar was commissioned in March 2024 by its subsidiary JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Ltd. (JVML). The Raw Material Handling System, Sinter Plant, and Blast Furnace have also been commissioned, with the Steel Melt Shop currently under commissioning. BPSL Expansion: Phase II expansion from 3.5 MTPA to 4.5 MTPA has been completed, with major equipment now operational. JSW Steel Coated Products Ltd: The 0.12 MTPA colour-coated line in Jammu & Kashmir has begun commissioning activities.Odisha Slurry Pipeline: The 30 MTPA slurry pipeline is progressing on schedule, with commissioning expected by FY27.These developments reflect JSW Steel's commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and transitioning to sustainable energy sources across its production facilities.
