Coimbatore’s manufacturing sector took a beating, which led to unutilized capacities, job losses, and financial stress. But as the new year begins, the industry hopes for measures from the government for demand to revive.
“Since June-July, it was not just the automobile sector, but many other sectors that started seeing a slowdown. It has affected jobs and working capital availability for industries, especially the Micro, Small and Medium-scale Enterprises (MSMEs),” says R. Ramamurthy, President of Coimbatore District Small Industries Association. “The MSMEs in Coimbatore are facing 30 percent to 40 percent slowdown and nearly 40 percent capacities remain unutilized. We are unable to meet the overheads,” he adds.

Textile Industry
Coimbatore region is famous for the quality of its cotton and dyed fabric, wherein, a large produce of the manufacture is exported to different countries.
