The medical textile industry has boosted the Indian economy over the past two years.
When the entire world came to a standstill during the pandemic, global manufacturing of healthcare kits faced a prolonged halt making it difficult to import necessary medical equipment. This is where India started to have a boom in the medical textile industry as a lot of healthcare start-ups amplified the production of the required medical kits such as masks, PPE, scrubs, patient clothing, gloves and many more. To meet the soaring demand for medical kits, the domestic market has optimized the production to its full potential. Medical textiles is one of the fastest-growing industries in India making up to Rs. 120 crore this year.
The PPEs and masks or other safety measures available in the market to avoid infection are not very resistant to viruses or bacteria. Several textile players launched antimicrobial textiles; however, most of these are not scientifically validated, and at the most can be reused for a maximum of 30 gentle washes. This is where Thermaissance stepped up its innovation and launched self-sanitizing medical textiles whose antimicrobial effectiveness can last for more than 150 gentle washes. Thermaissance is an Indian healthcare textile start-up that offers a wide array of environmentally sustainable and microbial
infection resistant healthcare kits such as PPEs, scrubs, masks, patient clothing, headcovers and gloves.
A smart textile venture
Thermaissance has taken up the endeavour in reinventing healthcare textiles by using nanotechnology in their fabrics. Thermaissance products have been scientifically proven to inactivate 99.999 percent of enveloped viruses like coronavirus and kill various bacteria including highly resistant MRSA, VRE and CRE. Their products are also effective against fungi like mould, yeast and even mucor species. Covid killer masks, scrubs, gloves, head covers, coveralls, PPEs are some of the Thermaissance’s innovative products that are anti-viral, anti-bacterial, reusable, super breathable and anti-static. All their products are free of toxic chemicals and extremely skin-friendly. The technologies that are used in the masks keep the pathogens away and give protection to the wearer all the time. They are super comfortable and cost-effective.
Manish Raval, Founder of Thermaissance mentions, “We have been working on developing antimicrobial textiles since 2018, and we are glad that our products have helped frontline workers and the general public during the ongoing pandemic. Healthcare workers trust our products since these are scientifically validated in ISO approved laboratories in the US and India. As of today, we are one of the very few textile companies in India that have been allowed by ASCI to market our products as Covid Killer Products”.
Thermaissance is committed towards continual research and up-gradation of technology to keep on countering viruses, bacteria and fungi successfully. The company aims at becoming the smart textiles leader of global repute
Thermaissance’s innovation was recently recognized by IFC (part of World Bank) in its latest publication on Innovation in Manufacturing PPE: Towards Circularity & Sustainability. Hemali Sangani, the Co-Founder of Thermaissance adds, “Mismanagement and littering of plastic-based PPE poses a risk of virus transmission, and at the same time pollutes land and marine ecosystems. We restrict the use of plastics in our products to make them more sustainable. Also, the textile industry is very popular for using harmful dyes and harmful chemicals, which can have a really bad impact on people’s health as well as on the environment. That's where we are conscious to avoid using toxic chemicals, harmful dyes in our products, which makes them safer for the people as well as for the environment”.
