Business models evolve with time, sometimes due to changes in the market and sometimes due to the advent of technology, resulting in the emergence of new exciting trends. And these days, a whole new theme is gaining popularity, smart vending machines. Conversely, according to the National Family Health Survey (2015-16), there are around 355 million menstruating women and girls in India. However, women across the country experience significant barriers to a comfortable and dignified experience with menstrual hygiene management. They first face issues accessing and discarding the used pads in public washrooms. To overcome this situation, Priya Anand Nikam founded Stree Sanman, one of India's leading sanitary napkin vending machines and incinerator manufacturing companies. Their objective is to provide sustainable and eco-friendly women's hygiene products.
Priya states, "In 2016, while I accompanied my husband on business trips to rural Karnataka and spoke with several villages' women, the idea for StreeSanman first came to me. One of the concerns that particularly impacted me was poor menstruation hygiene. After extensive testing and research, I established the proprietorship company StreeSanman on September 1st, 2018,
with a focus on items for women's menstruation, such as sanitary napkin vending machines and sanitary napkin incinerators. Even the English translation of StreeSanman is women's dignity".
Providing Easy Access to Personal Hygiene Goods
Women constantly face problems during the menstruation cycle concerning the unavailability of sanitary napkins or disposal of used sanitary napkins. StreeSanman provides technological solutions to overcome a woman's struggle during her periods by facilitating personal hygiene products with ease. They offer an eco-friendly disposal solution for the disposal of used sanitary products and solid waste. Their smokeless incinerator technology eliminates 98 percent of the smoke produced during combustion. The product is currently in high demand in hospitals, hotels, hostels, pathology labs, municipal councils and corporationsand other facilities to treat or dispose of waste at the source. Even Karjat Municipal Council and Murud Municipal Council along with several Hospitals in Thane and Raigad districts have the smokeless solid waste incinerator installed. This contributes to saving the land that would have been utilized for landfills.
Priya added, "I was pleased to get my first shipment on the day I gave birth to my first child. Since that day, we haven't looked back. With a strong and lasting relationship with our clients, we are currently demonstrating a very high trajectory of YOY growth. B. Braun Medical India, Amazon RetailSales Limited, Zerodha, JetPrivilege, Birla Soft, AIIMS Jodhpur, and others are among our esteemed clientele. Over 1000 machines have been delivered to nearly all of India's states, thanks to our enthusiastic sales team and innovative digital marketing strategy. The corporate sector liked the concept of period friendly workplace. Our machines were also donated by MNCs under CSR.
We have also exported our machines to Europe as well as the African continent. We have been awarded the best startup award in 2021 by UdyogAnubhavPratishthan, Thane, Maharashtra. Our patent pending technology of Smoke Elimination System gives an edge over other competitors".
Hence, StreeSanman's mission is to create an ecosystem with the help of advanced and innovative technology; where women will feel confident during their menstruation cycle and provide an environmentally friendly solution to dispose-off the solid waste. And as a result of their excellent work, the company was honored at IIT Roorkee's Tech Fest and won recognition for its efforts. Additionally, in January and February 2022, UdyogMaitrin Magazine published their work. "Despite having faced numerous obstacles over the past three years, we triumphantly overcame them. In the long term, we envision StreeSanman becoming a world leader in solid waste management and women's healthcare, and we want to have your support along the way", concluded Priya.
