India’s evolving food industry is a reflection of the rising urbanization and changing food preferences of the working population and millennials. As these populations continue to rely on RTE and RTC foods, there is a growing concern regarding them as they are typically highly processed, high in sugar, and full of unhealthy oils, maida, and more.
Since the pandemic and early onset of lifestyle disorders highlighted the need for healthier lifestyles, individuals now seek healthier food options that are also convenient to consume, gluten-free, preservative-free, and diabetic-friendly. Stepping in as pioneers of this industry is Somey’s Kitchen. This Bengaluru-based company is revamping the healthy food segment by offering a diverse array of millet-based and gluten-free convenience food products that are plant-based, that are ready-to-eat or ready-to-cook via its chain of cafe outlets known by LRIGU ABCDE (Any Body Can Drink & Eat).
Promoting Healthier Lifestyle
Under its brand ‘Beam Foods’, Somey’s is advocating ‘good health for an entire family’, by offering a complete range of food options encompassing healthy junk food choices for children and teens, convenient and healthy foods for the working population and students, nutrient-rich superfoods for women, sportspersons, and geriatric populations, as well as diabetic-friendly foods for the celiac populations. Providing foods that are free from any chemicals, preservatives, artificial colors, fragrances, or flavors; the company is offering a one-stop solution for the entire family.
In the production of these healthy foods, the company is aided by its state-of-the-art production facility, ensuring that all relevant industrial guidelines are met. Following a thorough quality-control protocol, the team at Somey’s Kitchen ensures that customers only receive health in a box.
“We follow quality checks from sourcing and production up to product delivery. We also check the nutritional components for each raw material obtained to maintain the quality and nutrition. All the raw materials are directly sourced from farmers through FPOs and have an in-house R&D and quality testing facility to check the quality and nutritional profile of the products”, share Srinivas V Bandlamuri, Shivakumar Thammegowda, Dr. Mousumi Mondal, Suchit C Vasudevappa, Ashwathy Das, Rizwan Pasha & Manochaya S, who are part of the core team.
What sets Somey’s apart in this crowded industry is that the company uses only millets in its products, without any additives like sugars, maida, wheat, or other commonly used products. Additionally, through its cafes, the company provides a unique trial experience for potential customers to taste the various foods, and purchase with confidence to consume at home. Moreover, Somey’s has received a patent for its technology in developing multi-millet chapatis and won the National Siridhanya award for the same.
We have a state-of-the-art production facility that is ISO 22000:2018 (FSMS), ISO 9001:2015, WHO-GMP, Organic & HACCP certified
Future Growth
Founded in 2019, the company has come a long way in propagating values of healthier eating in the country through its products. With an existing product range including diverse foods like smoothies, malts, pooris, and the company is actively working to expand its portfolio, starting with the introduction of a breakfast line. Having received a grant for Rs. 40 Lacs from Startup Karnataka under the ELEVATE scheme to develop millet-based smoothies for various lifestyle disorders like diabetes, PCOS, and celiac disease, the company is passionately working to quickly launch these products into the market.
As the company further plans its expansion endeavors, a significant focus will be on its goal to open at least 100 cafes, spread across India by the end of 2024. Inviting all individuals to its cafes to enjoy guilt-free food, the company is crafting exciting new food options, which would also be available in packaged form, and would feature indigenous cuisines, and millets across the menu.
