The journey began with a realization of the high costs associated with compostable products often priced around Rs800/kg in 2018 especially in a city with limited manufacturing infrastructure. Through extensive research over several years, the entrepreneur identified the challenges of shifting consumer preferences from inexpensive plastic carry bags to biodegradable bag costing just Rs 200/kg at present. Despite initial setbacks,
including losses of nearly 78 lakhs, the company focused on innovative production methods to enhance efficiency and reduce costs. As a result, Nav Green Enterprises has successfully lowered prices by approximately 75 percent compared to traditional plastic bags, making compostable alternatives more accessible.
“My journey as a first-time entrepreneur has been both challenging and rewarding. The first support which I got from my parents to initiate a manufacturing industry. After doing an extensive research into machinery, I aimed to equip my manufacturing unit with customized, high-speed machines. Observing foreign companies achieving production rates of 90-110 kg/hr, I recognized the need for innovation, as Indian machines typically produced only 40-50 kg/hr. Collaborating with manufacturers, I designed machines that combined multiple functions with 80-85 kg/hr, also with innovation of water based printing ink technology for employee’s safety and environmental safety. Transitioning from a career in aeronautical engineering to manufacturing posed challenges, positive ideas from family, particularly in securing financial support from bank after long struggle”, speaks Naveen.
