The hydroponics industry in India has grown significantly in the last few years, with many opting for organic and healthy produce. Considering the fact that hybrid or unnaturally grown vegetables could cause several health hazards, many individuals and families now look forward to consuming only organic food to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Owing to the growing demand for organic produce, the hydroponics market in India is likely to grow at a CAGR of 13.53 percent during 2021- 2028, and as the market continues to witness an upward growth, many businesses are joining this bandwagon of employing hydroponics technology to create controlled environments where organic produce can be grown. In the last few years, several companies have ventured into this segment, but there is one company that has performed significantly well in a short period of time.
Enter Hydro Farm, a Kolkata-based company that produces healthy hydroponics vegetables. Hydro Farm made it to the hydroponics market in 2017 when the company’s founder, Snigdh Daga and Aaditya Kothari, realised the potential of the hydroponics technology and started researching the market to understand the need for organic vegetables.
After getting thorough know-how of the market and the technology used to grow vegetables in a controlled environment, Snigdh and Aaditya went on to introduce Hydro Farm. The company is driven by the vision to witness people across the country consume fresh and healthy vegetables. “We aim to grow food that’s fresher, tastier and better for the environment. We intend to change what we eat as a society in the long run”, he adds.
The company started its journey with outdoor farming via polyhouse cultivation using RO water and gradually also started farming indoor using its hydroponics technology. Over time, Hydro Farm has evolved to refine its processes and cultivation techniques to fulfil its customers’ needs for healthy and fresh vegetables. The organization has garnered a vast customer base in Kolkata and gradually seeks to extend that trajectory in other parts of Eastern India.
Snigdh has been able to chart this roadmap for his company owing to the acceptance he has received for Hydro Farm’s produce among the customers. The company has attained substantial growth just by the word of mouth, which speaks volumes about the quality of its produce. The team at Hydro Farm continues to identify its customers’ demands.
It has been accordingly widening the range of vegetables it produces. Hydro Farm offers an expansive range of exotic leafy vegetables and is continuously working on cultivating many other varieties. “The best thing about hydroponics is it allows us to grow any kind of vegetables, so we plan to now introduce our range of bell peppers, zucchinis and even blue berries”, mentions Snigdh.
We aim to grow food that’s fresher, tastier and better for the environment
Hydro Farm gradually plans to continue expanding this list and cultivate as many as vegetables as possible. From being a young company that witnessed severe challenges in its initial journey in terms of hydroponics’ acceptance among customers to having such ambitious plans, Hydro Farm has come a long way. However, there is still time until it emerges as a nation wide brand, and Hydro Farm intends to take one step at a time by first expanding to Bhubaneswar and other cities in the East and there after to other cities in the different parts of the country.
