Going organic is the new way to stay trendy and healthy. In today’s life keeping healthy is a significant factor and only a handful of organic farms are contributing rigorously towards it across India. Organic or hydroponic farming revolves around the two basic factors including health, and ecology. Considering these two factors of keeping the world healthy and balance ecology, Gourmet Greens, a Kolkata-based agree-business, stands out as an exceptional contributor to building a healthy food habit by grow¬ing and selling hydroponic and organic fresh food to people across India.
“The hydroponic or organic market is growing exponentially since the COVID-19 pandemic has hit the society. People are now aware of the quality of the food that they are consuming and thus shifting towards purchasing and procuring farm fresh organic vegetables and other products”, says Anshul Jhunjhunwala, Founder & CEO Gourmet Greens.
Being Passionate to build a business in the agriculture domain, Anshul completed agree-business at Latrobe University, Melbourne, where he observed the project of growing and selling farm fresh organic products. He planned to build a similar business in Kolkata as the zone was lacking the presence of such farm-grown fresh
crops. Thus, he implemented a hydroponic method to grow farm-fresh products which contribute to cultivating organic vegetables with zero risk of pest attacks. However, he has faced a lot of hardships while establishing his business on this front.
For us, the major challenge was the lack of awareness among people about organic farming and its benefits in the Kolkata region. However, the awareness is increasing and orders are increasing every day”, Anshul defines. The season has been another major challenging area for him to grow crops as winter weather supports outdoor farming while summer or rainy seasons create troubles for outdoor farming. Since the Kolkata weather is super humid, the greenhouse temperature keeps rising and hinders the crops to grow in suitable weather. Cultivation in that case is shifted to indoor spaces that automatically increases the expense due to the increase in electricity spending and other components.
“Since we are an organic company, we do everything organically. We use paper wrapping or banana leaf wrapping instead of normal plastic. However, in summer, such delicate packaging often creates difficult to deliver. Therefore, we are looking forward to a sustainable way of doing it. We make sure we do not use any biodegradable stuff in our workspace”, Anshul confirms. Dedicated to delivering the best-in-class products to its customers, Gourmet Greens offers an array of products including Leafy vegetables, Herbs, and other gourmet essentials.

Baby spinach, red Amaranthus, green lettuce, romaine lettuce, basil, butterhead lettuce, oregano, rosemary, cherry tomato, avocado, asparagus, bloody beet, and many more. “We started small as I was not sure how the market is going to be and how the response is going to be. We have grown gradually and now we are set to transform it into a one-stop”, Anshul adds.
Anshul and his team build salad boxes now which has paved the way for its customers to order these boxes as meals on daily basis and this serves as a lunch box for many. Gourmet Greens now follows the farm-to-table cycle by delivering products within one or two hours from the order time. Looking forward to expanding into more categories shortly, Anshul wants to transform Gourmet greens into a one-stop solution and expand across PAN India, UAE, and Dubai soon.
