NLC India Limited, a central public sector enterprise classified as a Navratna under the Ministry of Coal, has introduced a new wholly-owned subsidiary named NLC India Green Energy Limited (NIGEL). NIGEL is dedicated to leading all Renewable Energy (RE) initiatives. In a recent board meeting of NIGEL, essential managerial appointments were confirmed, and the company's logo was approved.
NIGEL Chairman Prasanna Kumar Motupalli said the new company, with a focus on renewable energy (RE) projects, will help to expand the RE power generation capacity faster. Given the current buoyant industry climate, developments in renewable energy, especially in storage systems such as Pumped Hydro System and Battery Energy Storage System, are anticipated to progress in tandem.
Shri Motupalli also made reference to the Optimal Energy Mix Report 2030 by the Ministry of Power's Central Electricity Authority. He emphasized that the projected capacity of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) on the grid is approximately 41.65 GW. This projection highlights a significant opportunity for enhancing storage system infrastructure. NIGEL has set an ambitious goal to establish renewable energy projects totaling 6 GW by 2030. In line with this objective, projects with a combined capacity of 2 GW are presently in development in various regions across India.
