On the first day of his trip to Japan, Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik met with President of Nippon Steel Company Eiji Hashimoto in Tokyo to discuss the company's plans to construct one of the largest steel factories in the world in his state with ArcelorMittal. The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) stated that the 30 mtpa plant will produce specialty steel.
The projected mega plant will significantly promote the socioeconomic development of the districts of Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Kendujhar and provide thousands of jobs for young people in Odisha, according to Patnaik's assurances. The establishment of an integrated steel factory in Odisha's Kendrapara district has been proposed by ArcelorMittal
Nippon Steel (AMNS) India Limited, a joint venture between Arcelor Mittal and Nippon Steel, with an investment of Rs 1.02 lakh crore. A second proposal from the AMNS for the construction of a 7 million tonne per annum (MTPA) steel factory in the Odisha district of Jagatsinghpur was accepted by the state government in January of this year. The factory would be built with a 38,000 crore rupee investment. The Odisha Chief Minister and the high-level delegation were warmly welcomed to Tokyo earlier in the day by Indian Ambassador to Japan Sibi George and Embassy staff.
The Chief Minister stated his belief that the visit will further solidify ties between Japan and Odisha and give both parties a chance to investigate potential areas of shared interest. He also expressed his gratitude to the Japanese government and people for their warmth and hospitality shown to the delegation, and he stated his hope that the visit will help to fortify the cultural relations between the two countries.
Almost 200 industrialists, businesspeople, and investors from Japan and the Indo-Pacific Region are anticipated to attend the Odisha Business Meet 2023, which the state of Odisha will host at The Okura Tokyo on April 5.
The Chief Minister will speak to the investors and highlight Odisha's numerous current and future commercial possibilities. Patnaik will engage in interactive engagement with the Odia diaspora in Japan in the evening. According to officials, the state delegation will visit the Nippon Steel Corporation's R&D facility and Kimitsu Steel Works on April 6.
