India's power ministry has circulated Cabinet notes for inter-ministerial consultation in an effort to start the process of extending access to
dependable power and enhancing the nation's energy security. India is considering connecting its power grid to those of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates through undersea cables. Raj Kumar Singh, the Union Minister for electricity and New and Renewable Energy, stated in an interview that India is also in discussions with Singapore to connect the city state with its electricity system via an underwater cable link.
The major projects would be put out to bid after thorough project reports are developed, Singh said, adding that the nations will evaluate the viability of each project before moving forward. Bilateral agreements will be signed with Saudi Arabia and the UAE for the mega projects once they have received approval from the Union cabinet.
