The government has allocated a total capacity of 39,600 MW of domestic solar PV module manufacturing capacity to 11 companies, with a total outlay of Rs 14,007 crores under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for high efficiency solar PV modules tranche-II.
The official press release, manufacturing capacity is anticipated to reach 7400 MW by October 2024, 16,800 MW by April 2025, and the remaining 15,400 MW by April 2026. It further stated that investment in Tranche II is anticipated to total Rs 93,041 crore. Renewable energy minister R K Singh was reported in the announcement as
saying that the PLI plan "has proven to be a watershed event in India's renewable landscape, resulting in around 48 GW domestic module manufacturing capacity within the next three years."
In November and December 2022, 8737 MW of integrated capacity total was allotted under Tranche I of the PLI project. The government has provided cumulative support totaling more than Rs 18,500 crore for the domestic solar PV module manufacturing capacity designated under the PLI Scheme, which stands at 48,337 MW, according to the announcement.
In the polysilicon, wafers, cells, and modules basket, a total of 15,400 MW capacity was awarded under tranche-II, according to the release. Of this, Indosol received 6,000 MW, Reliance received 6,000 MW, and First Solar received 3,400 MW. The wafers, cells, and modules basket was given a total of 16, 800 MW of manufacturing capacity. According to this, Waaree received 6,000 MW, Avaada received 3,000 MW, ReNew received 4,800 MW, JSW received 1,000 MW, and Grew received 2,000 MW.
7,400 MW of capacity in total was given away under the basket of cells and modules. Tata Power Solar received 4,000 MW, AMPIN received 1,000 MW, and Vikram Solar received 2,400 MW of manufacturing capacity.
