An inter-ministerial panel would place the roadmap to institutionalise deployment of low-carbon technologies and drive energy efficiency in emission-intensive industries as part of the plan to reduce CO2 emission, power minister R K Singh said on Thursday.
At a meeting to review the development of various energy efficiency programmes and climate change actions, Singh asked pertinent departments and agencies to emphasis on segments with high emissions such as transport, MSME (micro,
small and medium enterprises) and power plants.
Singh recommended ministries to implement demand-side enterprises to minimise wastage of energy across all segment of the economy. Instantaneously, he said low-carbon technologies required to be deployed on a “massive” scale, especially in MSMEs, where it is highly needed.
The minister also requested all government departments to push electric mobility more aggressively. He said a concerted push for renewables is already underway and a complete action plan would be developed to identify potential areas.
Distinctly addressing an industry webinar, Singh said India will overachieve its Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC) targets committed as part of the Paris agreement on climate change.
"The climate change performance index of 2020 rates India as among the 10 highest performers for climate action and rates India very high for well below 2 degrees rise in temperature. We did it in a very, very short timeframe," he stated.
