A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) has been signed by the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO), an NTPC subsidiary, and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. The deal, which focuses on the building of 2620 MW hydroelectric projects, was formally signed in Itanagar.
India is working to reach its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) goal, which includes these hydro projects. The 500 GW non-fossil energy capacity target is intended to be reached by 2030. The achievement of this goal is seen as being crucial to India's goal of achieving Net Zero carbon emissions by 2070.
The hydro projects have the ability to boost regional economic growth in addition to being environmental efforts. The projected results include creating job opportunities and fostering technical knowledge and skill development within the neighbourhood. The establishment of the MoA will allow NEEPCO and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to collaborate on the creation of hydroelectric power projects in the area.
