Electric Mobility is the buzzword, and it is one of the few industries that have received tremendous support from Governments across the world. However, there are significant differences between Indian EV market and other markets. Indian EV market is dominated by micro mobility, that is two wheelers, three wheelers and soon one ton pick-up trucks will come too. The key problem is unavailability of robust supply chain and focused design solution for the segment. Most of the designs are patchy and do not reach the potential of efficiency and safety as they can at same cost. Lack of talent and technology is another bottleneck, industry is new and there isn’t a readymade talent pool that can be utilized for development of cost-effective solutions for Indian specific needs. Voltam Electrik from Coimbatore has built on its years of experience and innovative edge and developed & designed products with technology that fits into the Indian vehicles.
Manish Seth, Managing Director & Technology Head
The company chooses and validates supply chain carefully to live up to high standards. It focuses on speed of service and providing a cradle to grave solution to its customers. According to the management of the company, the segment has been focusing on cost, however, it sees that now customers are also looking at quality and safety in addition to cost. In foreseeable future, micro mobility will lead the Indian EV renaissance. Government support, ease of parts availability, better service network and high quality & efficient products at right price will drive the market. Later, the economics will take over and owning and maintaining an EV will become easier than IC engine vehicles. “We work with them during design phase and then build & give products that meets the specific vehicle need, this approach cuts the time to market and various overheads for our customers”, states Naveen Prasanna, Executive Director – Operations, Voltam Electrik.
