Aging population and an increase in the frequency of chronic diseases have been the primary driving factors for the medical implants market growth. Furthermore, rising awareness of the various types of medical implants has fuelled the market's expansion. As the major expectations from medical implants are their fit and functionality, manufacturers must take this into utmost consideration. Proper domain knowledge is critical for meeting the quality and durability standards to the fullest. The traditional approach of implant technology is based on a generalized approximation of the human anatomy, wherein, most of the time, the surgical procedure is based on modifications to the patient to fit the implant. However, the ideal focus should be the other way around.
Since every patient’s skeletal anatomy is unique, with no geometric approximation, Medicad Implants has been designing and developing patient specific implants with clear understanding of the mechanics of the human body. As a standard implant would have a design, testing and validation phase only once during its life cycle, every case Medicad receives is unique and goes through a process of design, testing, post production planning and validation. Moreover, as the time scale is very limited for the cycle, the company places absolute emphasis on the quality of the input data it receives. These inputs are obtained through CT scans and technical
requirements sheets prepared by the surgeon. The company has also developed several protocols in-house to ensure there is no latency in this regard. The post surgery followup procedures are initiated regularly to validate the performance of the implants.
“Our operations are focused on the ideals of fit and functionality. We follow a very meticulous protocol during the design phase such that there is no compromise in functionality. A detailed digital testing is done to ensure functionality. Digital and physical models are forwarded to the decision makers, which usually is the surgeon. In certain complex cases, a mock surgery is carried out with the model before the implant manufacturing takes place,” explains Vivekanand, Founder of the company.
“We follow a meticulous training regime for our technicians to acquaint themselves with the functions of the products they are going to design. We have MOU with clinicians for this arrangement. As an Artisan’s creation is as good as the tool he uses, we ensure that we utilize the latest design tools for our implants. And to back this up, we also have tie-ups with some top research facilities to validate our design and manufacturing processes,” he adds.

Well-built Infrastructure
Medicad Implants has a well-established and knowledgeable ground network throughout the country. This ensures precise understanding of the surgeon’s requirement. The company is also strategically tied-up with supply-chain partners throughout the country for quick delivery of its products. With high emphasis on the long-term performance of the implant, Medicad Implants does not stop with a minimum viable product during the design phase. And adding to all this, it has a five-year follow-up protocol for the patients utilizing the implants to regularly evaluate the implant performance.
“As our domestic presence keeps expanding, we are also establishing tie-ups in the Far-East for distributing our products there. We are actively involved in R&D work with CSIR-CECRI for development of ceramic based advanced bio-mimetic implants. We wish to introduce the next generation solutions in customization for patient specific applications in the near future,” concludes Vivek.
