According to Grand View Research, the global bamboo market size was valued at $53.28 billion in 2020 and
is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.7 percent from 2021 to 2028. When compared to trees, bamboo produces around 35 percent more oxygen and absorbs 40 percent more carbon dioxide, resulting in a significant improvement in air quality. Furthermore, bamboo plantation provides carbon fixation, reduces soil erosion, and purifies the environment. However, the Indian bamboo industry is still unorganized, and we continue to rely on imports to meet our need for bamboo products.
Machau Bamboo Products Pvt. Ltd. has been developing and supplying standardized raw materials to firms that manufacture bamboo sticks and toothbrushes with the notion that growth can be achieved in a sustainable and eco-friendly manner. The company has always prioritized R&D in order to provide clients with best-in-class raw materials, methods, and technology required to set up and maintain a bamboo products production facility efficiently.
“Our goal is to create a robust environment for India's new trending bamboo industry. We want to be the backbone that supports farmers, local businesses, large industrialists, retailers, and end consumers throughout the value chain. Since
India is the world's second largest producer of bamboo, we aim to accelerate this by constructing a good supply chain infrastructure that will allow us to deliver necessary innovation to the market”, says Divya Munot, Co-Founder at Machau Bamboo Products.
“We are strongly aligned with the promising 'Make in India' mission so as to reduce or stop the dependence on imports. We want to offer the best of technologies, information and methodologies; be it for big industrialists or small farmers. We want to create a profitable ecosystem for all participants in the value chain by bringing in efficiency and as a result volume. We have devised ways of ensuring consistent supply of Bamboo from the farmers while also making sure that they earn a good share of the margins created in the process” Divya adds.
Building an Environmental Conscious Brand
Divya and Siddharth Munot shifted from Mumbai, all the way to Assam, just to start this venture and connect to the people at grassroots level. Siddharth has had a successful stint with entrepreneurship being the founder of D2C youth fashion e-Commerce company Bewakoof.com. While Divya comes from a strong industrial background of Bedmutha Group manufacturing steel wires. Divya and Siddharth have continuously been working alongside the local farmers and workers to procure the best breed and quality of bamboo. Further, as bamboo products create a lot of waste, their organization has also been trying to solve this fundamental problem. “After procuring the bamboo, we carry out primary processing to get the raw materials required for manufacturing a given product, wherein all the waste material that is not needed is removed at the source so that excess transportation cost can be cut”, highlights Divya.

Machau’s state-of-the-art facility covers 20000 square feet which is equipped with the latest machines and technologies. It also has integrated charcoal making machines for thorough waste management. The company is looking forward to building a robust R&D team and a lab to carry out prototyping and get more standardized raw materials. This will help in developing more bamboo products indigenously.
“Currently, we are stationed at Guwahati, Assam. Going forward, we would also want to expand across other states of North-east India. As the market is poised to grow steadily, we are aiming to get into plywood, paper and other industrial verticals as well”, concludes Divya.
