“S.M. Engineers is the first Commercial Calibration Laboratory established in 1985 in Pune. We are a pioneer of calibration for mechanical instruments, gauges, and measuring equipment. Our clients vary through different segments like Automotive, Agriculture, Aerospace, Defence, Food, Medical Devices, Mining and Process industry, Pharmaceutical as well as Transportation & Heavy engineering equipment. Our calibration services cover a wide variety and range in the field of Mechanical, Acoustic, Acceleration, Electrical, Thermal, Electro-technical, Flow, Pressure, Viscosity, Optics, Force, Torque, and many others,” states Mahesh Rabade, Managing Director, S.M Engineers.
“We are in the calibration business for more than 35 years. We are committed to Customer Satisfaction by continually improving our systems and abilities. Yearly growth of our calibration activity and client base reflects our commitment to core values for more than 3 decades. This is entirely possible because of new and existing customers; S.M. Engineer’s team that works meticulously towards the expansion of technical capabilities and scope of our calibration. My family has largely contributed to this success. My wife, Mrs. Medha Rabade has been a pillar of support throughout the journey. My children, Sameer and Saurabh have completed M.S. from the USA and are now actively involved in expansion efforts,” says Mahesh Rabade.
“We have grown our clientele by 20 percent in the last 3 years and are consistently exceeding customer expectations. We have developed and proven special in-house capabilities that put us on a global map for calibration. To stay ahead in
today’s competitive market, S.M. Engineers offers industry-leading calibration capabilities and ensures that its services are tailored to meet customer demand,” he adds.
The Assurance of Quality
“At S.M. Engineers, as we add new capabilities to our scope, we do indepth surveys, market research & always keep our customers’ requirements as the top priority. We use this data to prioritize our next calibration capabilities that are unique but, currently, such calibration is not offered by few laboratories in India. We select the world-class reference standards and get them calibrated from international laboratories that enable us to deliver the best results to our valued customers. Calibration of Measurement Capability (CMC) is a reliable tool for providing correct uncertainty of measurement for customer Instruments. We proudly say for our customer that items calibrated from S.M.Engineers will be able to maintain a TUR of 1:3 or better,” affirms Mahesh.
It depends on several factors to name a few, mainly on the type of reference used, training & Calibration Procedures that define the level of confidence in the calibration results of the laboratory.

Mahesh proudly states, “Our laboratory masters and reference standards are procured from reputed manufacturers in Germany, Switzerland, UK, Japan, etc. Our high-quality equipment along with well-defined laboratory procedures and methods help us achieve the best Calibration and Measurement Capability (CMC). We ensure the best measurement capabilities and accurate results to our customers for measuring the quality of their products, this is our mission and goal.”
Projecting Future Goals
By 1999-2000, with their innovative and customer-oriented service approach, the company was already calibrating more than 30 different types of instruments, gauges, and measurement devices (At the Laboratory and Onsite) for various industries and several clients across INDIA. By 2000-01, S. M. Engineers became one of the leading commercial calibration laboratories that provide Laboratory & Onsite Calibration services under NABL scope. They were recognized by customers for calibration and repair facilities under one roof.
“Along with our current calibration scope of 120+ varieties of items, we plan to enhance our capabilities in areas of Optics, Electro-technical, and Flow measurement. We are planning to improve our scope to include calibration of reference standards & new items at our existing calibration laboratory setup as well as onsite activities. We feel confident that we will be able to generate accelerated growth in coming years,” concludes Mahesh.
