The industrial metrology market revenue accounted for $ 9.8 billion in 2021 and is projected to reach $ 13.2 billion by 2026. The growth is attributed to rising demand of calibration in industrial sectors, such as pharmaceutical, engineering, automobile apart from medical sector, where measurement mandates in export/import operation as well. Still a gap has been felt in the market due to the lack of awareness about calibration and the perks it offers regarding qualitative enhancement. Multiple com¬panies from different industrial disciplines do not consider calibration as an integral part of their functional progression as it requires a sizable share of expense.
They need constructive guidance regarding calibration and its potential towards value addition, service accuracy and quality augmentation. This is where NIIRT Centre for Calibration, Analysis & Testing (NIIRT-C4CAT) came into existence as an independent private laboratory to offer a comprehensive range of calibration services with quality management system as per ISO/IEC 17025:2017. Their economic metrology facilities come with proper training programs on technical know-how. With a concept and objective of National Institute for Industrial Research & Technology, NIIRT-C4CAT emphasizes on educating its customers about its services in a detailed manner in order for them to know the best calibration solution for their own industrial purposes.
Extended Array Of Services
NIIRT-C4CAT serves a broad range of industries including Defence & Aerospace, Automotive & Locomotive, Pharmaceuticals, textiles, Bio-medical, Electronics, IT, Industrial and Laboratory instruments, Bio-engineering, Wellness & Healthcare and Printing & Packaging. Their comprehensive calibration services enable them to support such a wide span of industries. Along with mechanical and electrotechnical calibration, NIIRT-C4CAT runs calibration and validation for thermal & humidity based instruments/equipment as well.
Their testing facility comprises electrical, electronic and environmental testing of railway items, say, UPS, inverters, switch board control panel, luminaries and so on. They also provide testing services based on specific requirements of customers. The centre is also expanding its services in atmospheric pollution level testing along with water, noise and illumination testing. Environmental testing of products and devices along with microbiological and chemical testing of water and food samples are the other fringes of NIIRT-C4CAT’s testing capacity, in process for accreditation as per ISO/IEC 17025:2017 or NABL guidelines.

Unique Approach Of Services
NIIRT-C4CAT has an in-house laboratory setup in Panchkula (Haryana), surrounded by several industrial hubs in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Chandigarh. In addition to this, they have expanded their services in other parts of the country registering a yearly growth rate of 20-30 percent. NIIRT-C4CAT has also some unique facilities for the Indian Railways in regards to environmental and electrical testing. Dr. Sujit K Sinha, Director of NIIRT-C4CAT adds, “The awareness around calibration services has not reached a satisfactory level as yet. Many people who take up the service are opting for it out of compulsion.
So we are trying to educate those users by organizing on-line as well as off-line training programs. We also provide hands-on experience as well through running a number of work¬shops and seminars every year to achieve our quality mission”. Dr. Kalpana Sinha, CEO of the NIIRT-C4CAT mentions “We are looking forward to diversifying our operation to testing along with the expansion of our calibration services to medical instrumentation. So there are some targeted expansion plans for the coming two years”. "The main motto of the centre is 'Commitment for Quality with Conformity', which is ultimately the success 'mantra' of the centre", adds Dr.Kalpana
