In the landscape of EPC contracting, it is important for proactive communication and collaboration to avoid delays over costs. Established in 1976, KRR Heavy Engineering has emerged as a leading player in India's heavy engineering and equipment manufacturing sector. With specialized technologies and streamlined processes, with a global network of reliable vendors, KRR ensures timely project delivery that consistently exceeds expectations. Committed to customer satisfaction, KRR adheres to international standards, delivering exceptional value with each project undertaken.
Reflecting on KRR's journey Sakthivel Ramaswamy states, "As a second-generation entrepreneur, I've been inspired by my father's journey from our humble beginnings to significant growth. Embracing the ethos of continuous improvement, I've surpassed my goals this fiscal year and focused on further expanding our company, which has grown to around 400 people across various projects and locations. I aim to foster a strong company culture as we continue to evolve and thrive".
Nevertheless, regardless of the sector or project type whether it's a Sulphuric acid plant, a fertilizer plant, a mini refinery, or an oil and gas refinery the contribution of KRR to EPC projects remains consistent. The KRR approach encompasses understanding process parameters, designing equipment, obtaining approvals, and meticulously managing every stage from project planning to commission.
This standardized process ensures quality and efficiency across all projects. However, KRR acknowledges that different sectors may possess unique management, and financial cultures, necessitating the adaptation and fine tuning of strategies to meet each project's specific needs. Additionally, KRR offers diverse services, including EPC and turnkey projects, design-build services, research and development, maintenance, and prototype development.
Advancing Excellence in Greenfield Projects
KRR has been actively involved in several noteworthy Greenfield projects. Last year, KRR played a significant role in the expansion efforts of key players such as IFFCO (Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative) and NALCO (National Aluminium Company) in Damanjodi, facilitating substantial increases in production capacity. Presently, companies focus steadfastly on ongoing projects, including a substantial fertilizer expansion initiative in Rajasthan. Moreover, KRR's involvement in emerging sectors like solar and hydrogen energy, as evidenced by the supply of hydrogen storage tanks for modular refineries, underscores the commitment to advancing sustainable practices.
"In greenfield projects, our role varies depending on engagement. Some clients invite us to collaborate on project planning early in the conceptualization phase. Others approach us closer to project commencement, seeking our expertise for swift integration. Regardless of timing, we ensure prompt adaptation to match the project tempo. Early involvement allows for thorough planning and preparation", noted Sakthivel.
Moreover, the engagement process with KRR typically begins with preliminary discussions and the client's provision of preliminary drawings. Following this, the client obtains approvals from government agencies and prepares preliminary layouts. A technology provider may furnish a plant layout and process details. After finalizing parameters and assembly drawings, the project transitions to KRR. Based on the technology provider's process sheets, detailed engineering ensues, ensuring compliance with specifications and codes.
Third-party agencies verify design compliance with regulatory bodies such as PESO, ASME, IBR, and IRS, securing necessary approvals. Manufacturing occurs partially in KRR's shop or entirely on-site, depending on logistics and equipment size. They conduct quality assurance and testing throughout, culminating in the issuance of a performance certificate before handing over the plant to the client. Post-handover, performance monitoring may continue, ensuring the plant operates optimally.
"In considering the future of our company, I lean towards enriching our product portfolio over expanding services. While we excel in EPC manufacturing and contracting, I see tremendous potential in innovative product development. This approach enables us to reach a broader audience and make a meaningful societal and environmental impact, aligning with our core values. Despite challenges in services and a product, my focus remains on creating impactful new products", concludes Sakthivel.
