Aquaculture has experienced 50 percent growth in India over the last 20 years. The fish produced in India are no longer able to meet the rising demand due to increasing population and consumption. Now as per RBI’s direction, aquaculture farmers are also eligible for Kisan Credit Card. Therefore, Tank based Aquaculture is extremely crucial and has a promising future ahead.
KisanFlexis a collaboration between Agastya, an IIM-C incubatedstart-up and MohanTarp, an established name in the PVC Tarpaulin industry over the last 30 years. The two companies have complementing skill sets and the symbiosis between the two has helped in creating a best-in-class product which meets the customer needs.
KisanFlex is one of the leading manufacturers of PVC coated fabric Biofloc Tanks in India with over 5000 installations across 400+ farmers. The company is constantly striving towards enhancing services through technology, innovation and razor focus on customer needs and product quality.
One Stop Solutions for Aquatic Products
KisanFlex maintains close association among multiple stakeholders across value chain. Multifaceted insights help in improving the solutions for the farmers, who are its prominent customers.
“Tank based aquaculture requires a lot of accessories and finding the right source for all was a major pain point. Hence, KisanFlex has now become ‘One Stop Solution” for all Biofloc needs. We supply accessories like aeration systems, organic pro-biotic, tank accessories etc. We also help in installing and provide counselling. Now, any farmer who is connected with KisanFlex is ready within days to start harvesting!” says Prantik Sinha, MD, Agastya Buoyant.
Kisan’s Friend-Philosopher-Guide
Tank-based aquaculture is a relatively inexpensive technology. The requirement to start tank-based fish farming is a small piece of land and good amount of groundwater. Overall investment for a tank setup with accessories is Rs 30-35 thousand and cost of harvest is an additional Rs 35-40 thousand approximately. The total cost comes to around Rs 70-75 thousand. In a tank of 10,000 litres, one can harvest minimum 400 kg fish and sell at least at Rs 140/kg - which sums up to Rs 56,000. Hence a farmer starts getting returns within 2 harvests!
Prantik adds, “We call ourselves a Kisan’s Friend-Philosopher and Guide as we differentiate ourselves on 3 important pillars:
Prantik Sinha, MD
Our Technology: We use a state of the art Seamtek 3D welding machine so that our joints can withstand continuous water pressure, unlike other products made from ordinary welding machines. Our fabric has non migratory PVC Polymers which doesn’t diffuse in water.
Our Innovation: We take constant feedback from customers to innovate our products, for eg. we provide a rope at the end of the tank for an external reinforcement. KisanFlex has only one joint reinforced with PVC which gives a longer life to our tanks as compared to others.
Our Quality and customer connect: We are the only company that provides 5 years warranty on our products and total solution under one roof. We organise regular counselling sessions named as ‘Kisan Talks’.”
“We see ourselves as solution providers rather than product providers. We strongly believe in creating sustainable value for our customers and ensure that we not only supply the products but also help them in utilizing them most effectively,” says Anil Jhawar, MD, MohanTarp.
KisanFlex strongly believes in cohesive sustainability. Aquaculture is an industry in its nascent stages, and it is important for all stakeholders to prosper for the industry to grow. KisanFlex aspires to take the industry to a level where tank-based farming helps solve the problem of unemployment in the country and preserve the environment.
