Latest reports published by Government of India’s Press Information Bureau state that India has witnessed a significant increase in seafood exports over the past few years, achieving a remarkable growth of 30.81 percent from 2019-20 to 2023-24 and is poised for further growth 2025 onwards. The country’s seafood industry as a whole has experienced notable growth over the past five years, marked by increasing production and export volumes as well as rising export values.
India primarily exports frozen shrimp, fish, cuttlefish and squid, among which frozen shrimp remains to be largest exported product. However, when it comes to availing products from exporters, a number of challenges are faced by clients in terms of quality and timely delivery. JMJ Exports, based in Kerala, India understands the importance of compliance and sources its products from producers following the health and safety guidelines approved by the Indian government.
The company specializes in the export of various seafood products that include baby octopus, cuttlefish, Mackerel fish, squid, tuna, shrimp and Pomfret. It is an ISO 22000-HACCP certified company under the category of food safety management. “We are currently exporting to several European countries and UK, Vietnam, China and others. We are aware of the quality
parameters for seafood in all these countries and have procured all kinds of approvals regarding the same”, mentions Jimmy Paul, Founder, JMJ Exports.
Quality Excellence
There are numerous hazard analysis guidelines under the HACCP of the government of India, and JMJ Exports stays informed about of all of that and is also trained in the codex principles of food and hygiene applications. It is also accredited under the BRC global food standards and keeps itself aware of all the changing trends of the quality aspects of the seafood export market by attending seminars and workshops across the country.
“By participating in international food expos and meetings, we try to gain strong relationships with the people of the industry and acquire trusted clientele in the process. We have travelled to more than 20 countries over the years and steadily expanded the business. We also employ a strict quality assurance framework with standard quality checks at every step of the process”, states Jimmy.

An accurate logistics framework also ensures the delivery of good quality products for JMJ Exports. Being an exporter to numerous countries a definitive logistics framework and connectivity becomes primary to achieve business excellence. Recently, there have been fluctuations in ocean freight charges that have posed significant challenges for exporters. The company proactively manages such scenarios by negotiating with buyers for price adjustments or absorbing temporary losses to sustain operations.
Unpredictable events like the Suez Canal blockage, which disrupted direct shipping routes from India to Europe, are effectively managed by exploring alternative transit paths or adjusting shipment schedules. The company closely monitors container availability, vessel deviations, and other logistical constraints to ensure the timely delivery of products while maintaining operational efficiency.
Road Ahead
Since its inception in 2009, the company has gained significant trust and recognition as a quality exporter of frozen seafood. “Looking ahead, we plan on expanding our product range and acquire clients in other countries across the globe”, concludes Jimmy.
