The Electricity Act in the year 2003 resulted in significant changes to the Power Sector of India. While the generation and distribution systems were considered as business opportunities prior to 2003 trading, the implementation of the act expanded the opportunities to the transmission network which could participate as a business entity. The opening up of the sector allowed Electricity trading to commence which laid the groundwork for a boom in the Power sector.
Today, almost every aspect of the progress in the business ecosystem is dependent upon availability of uninterrupted Power supply. Transmission sector, in the Power industry, plays a crucial role in delivering this objective. Operation & Maintenance (O&M) of the transmission sector (both substations & transmission lines) depends upon skilled manpower, conditional monitoring with State-of-the-Art equipment, specialised tools, and the expertise to use them effectively. Reliability-centered maintenance of all the assets is the key to uninterrupted power transmission.
JBS aspires to be the most preferred partner in the business of its clients by providing efficient O&M services in the rapidly growing Power Sector of India, and increasing its presence in various geographical areas.
JBS Enterprises is well placed to grow utilizing the existing opportunities in the power sector while looking out for new avenues to expand its presence and areas of operations, and provide innovative technical solutions to its clients. The company has been heavily investing in equipment, and skilled and unskilled resources to ensure that it provides the expected services to support the clients achieve the power availability targets and raise the benchmark of service performance in the industry. Managing Director of JBS Enterprises Pvt. Ltd, Milind Thekedar, concludes, “We believe and practice knowledge gathering and training of our field employees. We have regular training programs conducted for our employees – strengthening them technically".
Keeping up with the spirit of innovation and digital trans¬formation, JBS has recently invested in, developed and successfully deployed a novel smartphone based application to capture the data for asset management, patrolling and routine O&M of substations & transmission lines. Technical and survey reports are generated specific to the site requirements based on the data collected primarily using the smartphone based application Dedicated Monitoring Team continuously monitors the maintenance activities and any deviation or unusual activity prompts alerts which are logged and addressed by the team and immediate supervisors. Additional features such as direct line of communication to stakeholders can be tailored to the specific needs of the client to improve the transparency and efficiency of the reporting processes.
We imbibe technology at every step to enhance efficiency
The success of the smartphone based application has opened up other avenues and now programmable drones are being investigated to enhance quality, speed and efficiency of monitoring. Programmable drones provide the technology and opportunities in O&M which need further exploration to quantify technical and commercial advantages. JBS has taken lead and feasibility trials have been conducted with drone patrolling for a sample of 20 km of transmission line.
The tireless efforts of Milind Thekedar, dedication and commitment of JBSs employees, and strive for excellence of the organization as a whole has led to JBS being a success story with over 3000 full time employees spread over 19 states and one Union Territory, providing services to around 650+ substations and 3900+ (route km) of transmission lines.
