Industrialization has gained pace in numerous Asian countries like India and Bangladesh. We have witnessed the influx of various new technologies and corporations that are trying to provide services to partially developed countriesand giving them a fair chance to grow. It is the gap in industrialization that is giving birth to the demand for engineering consultancy and solutions in various segments of the business ecosystem. Many established companies from India are now partnering with MNCs from developed economies and bringing in new technologies, giving way to an all-round development of the sector. Eskay Engineers from Kolkata is one such native corporation that has partnered with Ascend Engineering Inc from USA for technology transfer and related resource and services for providing solutions for advanced manufacturing of chemical and allied products, effluent treatment, air pollution control and water treatment plants.
The collaboration with the US Company has bolstered Eskay Engineers to secure consulting contracts from the Bangladesh government for performing preliminary engineering for two of their primary chemical hub projects in the major cities of the country. “Ascend Engineering is one of the leading companies for Global Climate Change studies. It is because global warming has become a 'Must Tackle' issue for most countries on our earth. We need to find ways to develop and use non-fossil (Zero or low carbon) alternative energy resources as well as capture of carbon (as CO2) from the surrounding atmosphere. We need to de-carbonize our earth, otherwise many people will not be able to live on this planet.
Because our partners are looking into pioneering work in carbon capture, we are very much interested in forming collaborative agreements with them. Along with Ascend, Eskay Engineers has set up firm consultancy agreements for the upcoming projects in Bangladesh. We are working on multiple projects over there”, mentions Subrata Banerjee, CEO, Eskay Engineers.
Operational Excellence
Subrata Banerjee’s father, Late S.S Banerjee, who was a senior chemical engineer from Jadavpur University, had started Eskay Engineers back in 1969. It was one of the first companies in the country that provided services in project planning, technology transfer, project administration, environmental engineering with ETPs (Effluent Treatment Plants), STP and control devices and related consultancy services. “We mainly work in two areas. One is turnkey chemical projects that the company has been doing since its inception in accordance with the demand in the market. We are specialized in providing supervision for the most commonly used chemicals in the industry. We also fabricate different kind of machinery for chemical and pharmaceutical projects”, says the CEO.

Secondly, the company has forayed to environmental engineering solutions and services since the last 15 years and has created a name for itself in this domain. Eskay Engineers is specialized in design and execution of ETPs for environmental projects as well as providing consultancy on air pollution control de¬vices. It is currently providing such kind of consultancy solutions to various popular companies in India that include the names of companies working in different sectors of production. “Apart from our projects in India, we are expanding in a big way in Bangladesh because its economy is moving at a very fast pace which is creating a lot of demand for our services”, mentions Subrata.
Future Endeavours
The company is well established in India and has also gained a strong foothold in Bangladesh. The recent collaboration with Ascend has opened new gates for the company as it is now planning on participating in international tenders for chemical and environmental engineering projects. “We will shortly be working on the sugar mill industry of Bangladesh in collaboration with our US partners”, concludes the CEO.
