Advancement in technology has impacted all fields including architecture and urban planning. Architecture has evolved into the design and construction of smart buildings and the use of green building principles. Smart buildings integrate technology to ensure construction, operational efficiencies and enhanced functionality for their occupants. Green buildings are about resource efficiency and building performance. The use of solar panels and water conservation are examples of this trend. While the evolution of technology has been gradual over the past two decades, currently there is a big boom in this industry.
Cubatic Design is an architectural collaborative based out of New Delhi and is a pioneer in cutting edge architecture and interior design. Urban planning has seen communities move from plotted developments to very dense urban communities such as group housing. Areas in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru have communities where the average FSI (Floor Space Index) is in the range of 3+ and not enough public space. It is essential that attention is paid to
public community spaces in our cities with an eclectic approach towards creating a solution in the increasingly dense new developments as well as the existing ones. This is an area of urban planning that requires transformational thinking.
