The Indian seafood market is driven by the huge export potential it offers. The market accounts for about six percent of the global production and the industry is expected to grow at a CAGR of 10.5 percent between 2022 and 2026 to reach a value of almost Rs.2,243 billion by 2026. Currently, the country represents one of the largest producers of fish in the world. In recent years, India has witnessed a huge growth both in domestic consumption, as well as the export of fish, consequently enhancing the Indian fish market. Also, the per capita consumption of fish has increased over the past several years.
With more emphasis on fish farming, advanced techniques, and lucrative business opportunity, Coral Exports started as a fresh/chilled fish exporter in 2004, and has grown into an exporter of frozen marine products. Sourcing from the southern tip to both coastal lines of India, the firm offers services as an environmentally committed export house across India, Europe, the USw, the Middle East, and the Far East.“There is a steady demand globally for seafood and the prices are more or less set in the global landscape. It is imperative that any company looking to play strongly in this space, fight challenges of seasonality through effective procurement planning, either locally or through its
network in other countries”, says Lissy Biju, Founder, Coral Exports. Even during the Covid period when most exporters had taken a hit, Coral Exports had a steady business owing to its quality and timely delivery. “Chilled exports have always been the niche of Coral Exports and will continue to expand this portfolio with more products. Sword, Tuna, and other Reef fish being the specialty for the upcoming season, the idea is to add to its basket a larger offering in the Chilled category and also improve its frozen offering”, adds Lissy.
Delivering Customer Satisfaction through Industry Expertise
Coral Exports has a lean team of subject matter experts with a versatile mix of industry seniors and enthusiastic fisheries graduates. They emphasize getting things done effectively. Getting things done effectively is what keeps the boat floating.
“The activity doesn’t particularly start from procuring, but right from educating the fishermen on good fishing practices to handling the material right so that we are having less wastage or dump, and to create the maximum value out of the products sourced. Quality experts from the industry work at multiple coasts where the material is sourced and ensure that the material, we pick up is of the highest quality. Also, at every stage of production, care is taken to handle the product correctly, at the right temperature, avoiding product shocks because of temperature fluctuations. And then ensuring it is properly packed and dispatched”, explains Lissy.
Coral Exports is one of the few players who have shipments done every single day without a single rejection to date. With Covid restrictions lifted and the world wide open, Coral is developing its network partners in the field of sales & distribution of its products.

Speaking about challenging cus¬tomer experience, Lissy mentions “One of our clients wanted super frozen shashimi-grade tuna and we took the challenge. We adopted two villages and taught them the best onboard han-dling practices and they started bring¬ing the best tuna almost 80 percent shashimi-grade products. The super freezers were imported from them for six months and we could manage to get them 800 tons of shashimi-grade tuna. It was a challenge for us but equally a big achievement for our team".
