The global cargo repair and service industry has been a humongous segment, growing at a CAGR of 11.7 percent currently and with an expected growth of 10.9 percent by 2026, leading it to become a $50.2 billion industry by that time. India has always been having a lot of old rigs and vessels in service here with various public sector undertakings, including the O&G sector, and these rigs require repair and maintenance in some form or other to be compliant with the latest regulations. In the early 2000s, latest guidelines for SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) were released, improving on the previous regulations set in 1974, which changed how work was being carried-out. Vessel owners as well as vessel managers started being more safety-conscious. They wanted their vessels to be compliant with the latest regulations, wanted the crew working on their vessels to be safe, wanted superior quality equipment and also wanted vendors who would give them quality services at a competitive cost.
India has seen tremendous growth in this segment, especially after initiating the ‘Make-in-India’ project, which has boosted the industry’s confidence and has made them start competitive projects in the global market. Cargo Gear Services (India) Private Limited (CGSIPL), an ISO 9001 certified company established in 1990, is involved in providing services for inspection, servicing, repairing, testing & certification of items of loose gear, lifting appliances, life-saving appliances, Fire-fighting appliances, testing & certification of anchors & anchor cables, fiberglass repair to lifeboats, load testing of lifeboats/rescue boats/ inflatable boats/SAR boats along with their launching appliances, mainly catering to the needs of the marine industry.
The Marine as well as O&G industry is very time-bound, the clients need the service provider to be capable of handling all their requirements, be it directly or indirectly, that is with the association of another vendor. Clients today prefer to offload the complete scope of work to a single vendor who can cater to all their compliances, certification, and safety needs. CGSIPL has diversified into new verticals in order to meet the growing demands of the industry by complying with the latest regulations, getting the latest certifications, employing a trained and professional workforce in order to be a 'Preferred Single Vendor' for the needs of the client.
“By providing quality services, we are catering to some of the biggest marine as well as O&G companies in the industry in the National as well as International segment, both offshore & onshore", speaks Gaurav Sharma, Director, CGSIPL.

They are continuously upgrading their systems and periodically organize trainings for their staff with the latest technological advancements, as well as the latest market trends in terms of client expectations in service. “We are holding regular workshops and trainings for our workforce organized by the National Safety Council to enable our workforce for better understanding of the clients needs & communicate with them efficiently", says Gaurav.
In providing the best services to the clients, CGSIPL has also opted for the route of creating and delivering detailed reports to the clients. Their clients are given detailed reports for all the jobs carried out for them. The reports begin with the initial stages of how the equipment was received, photographed at various stages of repair/renewal including a detailed explanation for each phase right till the time the work is completed, final certificates issued and material dispatched. This value-added service is very beneficial for clients as it is self-explanatory in case of any audits.

Our professionals deliver high-class services by following various quality norms and international quality standards
Starting the business 32 years ago, CGSIPL has been pivotal in revolutionizing how marine maintenance, servicing, repair, and testing is done. They have been the first players in this industry to introduce testing cylinders on-board ships & rigs, which save the client valuable time and logistical challenges. They were also the first to introduce air analyzing units and liquid level indicators, all of which were unheard of in India earlier. They have also been the first firm to provide specialized services in MDL for the submarines. Continuing on its reputation as a trendsetter, the firm has even gone to the extent of fabricating new equipment in-house to meet the specific needs of the client. They have also been the first to carry out on-board load testing of ships cranes in Mbpt using dead weights weighing 180 tons way back in late 90s.
Embracing the evolution of technology in the last three decades, CGSIPL has witnessed how machinery that was once humongous has become very compact. With the aim of staying competitive in the segment, CGSIPL incorporates all technological advancements into its products & services, thereby providing much better and more feasible services to the clients.
