Although the British introduced the industrial capabilities in India, enterprising Indians found this very conducive and started their own industries. However, the excessive cost of importing raw materials and transport of the same, left little room for any other investment on the establishment. Consequently, the Indian entrepreneurs went to the source of raw materials and acquired some machinery and built structures around the machines just to house the machines. But unfortunately, no thought process was involved in the building of these structures. This continued till the world war-II and up till India's independence from british rule. By this time, several second-generation of industrialists had gotten their education from abroad and were prepared to come back to India and transform the face of industry. They had realized the importance of proper planning and thus collaboration and modernism began. With the economic liberalisation, a new era started and a sense of participation at the global level was initiated. The 90s have witnessed this third phase in industrial architecture in India.
