Since the last two decades, the
crop nutrition category among agriculture retailers has been the largest income producer of the year in and year out. Infact, various nano-enabled strategies are proposed to improve crop nutrition and meet the growing global demands for food, feed and fuel while practising sustainable agriculture. The global
crop nutrition market was valued at $6,077.05 million in 2017 and is projected to reach $11,532.36 million by 2025, registering a CAGR of 8.3 per cent from 2018 to 2025.
“The global demand for food is growing and we have to find ways not only to increase yields by providing proper nutrition to crops but also to do it efficiently with zero tolerance for impacts on the environment” says Aadith Moorthy, CEO, Boomitra. Crop Nutrition offers a variety of potential benefits in profitability, productivity, sustainability, crop quality, food safety, environmental protection, on farm quality of life and rural economic development.
Use of Micronutrients
Micronutrients play an important role in maintaining balanced crop nutrition and the plant requires them in less quantity compared to micronutrients but deficiencies of the elements lead to serious losses in the yield as well as crop quality. Unrestrained use of micronutrients to the soil especially phosphorus has resulted in deficiencies of copper, iron and zinc in some soils. Hence, it is vital to pay attention to the availability of micronutrients in the soil to achieve better productivity and enhanced quality of the crop output. Micronutrient fertilizers are generally supplied as either liquid foliar applications or dry product for application of the soil.
Biological Crop Nutrition Products
Biological or biologically derived crop nutrition products have attained a special significance in modern agriculture and their adoption is expanding rapidly as they are being recognized as an ideal alternative for synthetic chemical fertilizers and are an aid in achieving sustainability in agriculture with the enhancement and restoration of soil biomass. The growing demand for organic food products has led to quick expansion in the area under organic farming. Growth in organic farming has increased the demand for crop nutrition products that meet the criteria of organic farming.
