Tata Power and the Assam government have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to construct up to 5,000 MW of clean energy projects, encompassing solar, wind, hydro, and energy storage. This is a major boost to Assam's renewable energy sector. At Advantage Assam 2.0, this ambitious project was formalized with an investment of ₹30,000 crore over the following five years.
The Assam government would lease about 20,000 acres of encumbrance-free government land as part of this partnership and help find private property for the development of renewable energy. Project execution will be further accelerated by infrastructure support, such as the creation of Renewable Energy Parks and smooth transmission connectivity. Group Captive sites will also help enterprises and tea plantations by providing direct access to renewable energy through Assam's industrial and land allocation rules.
Tata Power is prioritizing skill development programs to ensure that its employees are prepared to carry out projects. Assam aims to generate 500 MW of solar energy by 2027 and has a renewable energy potential of 14,487 MW, indicating that this partnership could have a major impact.
Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD of Tata Power, stated, "These MoUs mark significant steps towards developing renewable and clean energy capacity, leveraging Assam’s vast potential in solar, wind, hydro, and energy storage."
In line with the state's clean energy objectives, Tata Power is supporting Assam's transition to green energy by improving EV infrastructure and broadening rooftop solar projects as part of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGY).
