In an attempt to boost its footprint in India's defense and aerospace sector, Rolls-Royce announced it aims to nearly double supply chain sourcing from the country within five years. This underscores India's increasing presence in global sourcing hub lines of high-precision manufacturing, keeping with the government's 'Make in India' initiative.
The aerospace and defense leader wants to boost the purchasing of complex components for advanced aerospace engines, marine propulsion systems, diesel engines, and gas turbine engines. Rolls-Royce already procures critical engine parts for its defense, civil aerospace, and power systems businesses from Indian suppliers but has not disclosed the aggregate value of these procured products.
"India is fast emerging as a preferred hub for global sourcing, and we are looking to broaden our partnerships here to support both our business growth and the government of India's vision to 'Make in India for the world'," said Nicola Grady-Smith, Chief Transformation Officer at Rolls-Royce.
Rolls-Royce has been very important to India's manufacturing power throughout the years, ensuring it maintains the highest international benchmarks for quality. The company is currently focusing on developing partnerships with its current suppliers and new ones in India, together making complex engine parts locally for global markets.
"Strengthening the supply chain and enhancing ecosystem capabilities at this time will create a solid foundation for future co-production opportunities, and support India's vision of becoming a self-reliant defense powerhouse," said Alex Zino, Executive VP Defence, Rolls-Royce.
Strengthening its long-term commitment to India's defense and aerospace goals, Rolls-Royce is forming joint ventures and strategic alliances with prominent Indian companies like Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, Tata, Bharat Forge, and Godrej & Boyce.
