NTPC Group modified its capacity expansion blueprint to define a substantial transformation of India's present energy landscape. The latest industry sources reveal that the state-owned power utility plans to expand its 30,000 MW new thermal capacity by 2031-32, which is beyond its previous goal of 26,000 MW by 2030-31.
As per the sources, "NTPC has revised its plans for thermal capacity additions, adding another 4,000 MW capacity to the initial plan. The group now plans 30,000 MW of new thermal capacity by 2031-32, instead of 26,000 MW planned by 2030-31."
NTPC expects to implement 3,580 MW of thermal power in FY26 as part of its expanded development program surpassing previous commissioning levels from FY24. As part of its renewable energy emphasis the company seeks to install 5,000 MW of green energy units in the current year which represents a 26% increase from its previous fiscal performance.
NTPC operates a total of 80,020 MW in power generation facilities with thermal power at 62,854 MW leading the lineup together with 6,511 MW of liquid fuel, 3,757 MW of hydro, 6,211.5 MW of solar and 686 MW of wind power facilities. NTPC Mining operates as a subsidiary that expects to produce 50 million tonnes of coal during FY25 although its FY24 production reached 45.72 million tonnes.
