The infrastructure and industrial development of West Bengal experienced a major advancement when authorities put the first stone into place for a 1,600 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant in Salboni Paschim Medinipur. The JSW Energy power project receives financial support of ₹16,000 crore to construct the Eastern India's inaugural facility that functions as a major contributor to West Bengal's rising energy consumption needs.
The plant construction will take place through two phases where the first unit requires 42 months whereas the second unit requires 48 months to complete. The greenfield project will create almost 15000 new jobs while providing support to 23 districts of the state.
“This is a landmark project for West Bengal and the first of its kind in Eastern India. It will cover 23 districts and generate employment for 15,000 people,” said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the foundation ceremony.
JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal highlighted the project's technological edge and environmental consciousness, stating that it would feature “the highest-rated technology with zero pollution.”
Additionally, a 2,000-acre industrial park development in proximity to the plant will give Salboni its position as a future industrial zone. Six economic corridors along with the upcoming Deocha-Pachami coal complex positions West Bengal as the next energy and industrial powerhouse of the future.
