The West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited has given the engineering and construction company Larsen & Toubro (L&T) an order for up to Rs 2,500 crore for its power division. The company would not disclose the contract values but said that the orders fit within its "significant" category of contracts, which falls between Rs 1,000 and Rs 2,500 crore.
The company's regulatory filing, the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) order relates to the installation of wet flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) systems for its Thermal Power Plant at Sagardighi in the state of West Bengal. This will be a state-owned power utility's first FGD project for L&T.
According to the filing, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of the Government of India has mandated the installation of FGD systems in all current and future thermal power plants in order to reduce SO2 emissions.
L&T is prepared to implement FGD projects for thermal plants totaling more than 19 GW thanks to this order, actively supporting the government's initiative to reduce SO2 emissions, it added.
