The Karnataka government initiated a program aimed at tackling digital dependence and promoting balanced technology usage. The initiative, Digital Detox Initiative (DDI) – Beyond Screens, aims to decrease digital dependency via organized interventions.
The program will provide organized solutions via short, medium, and long-range goals. The IT-BT department stated that it will offer instant assistance for individuals facing digital addiction while also incorporating digital detox programs into standard healthcare.
Created through collaboration between the Karnataka government and the All India Gaming Federation (AIGF), and supported by Kahamind Healthcare, the program aims to increase awareness and develop research-based strategies to tackle the issue at both personal and community levels, it stated.
IT-BT minister Priyank Kharge emphasised the goals of the initiative to ensure the well-being of citizens. “As a firm believer of balance in our digital lives, I always say, ‘sunlight before screen light’ … This initiative will address the often ignored challenges of digital addiction,” he said.
AIGF chief executive Roland Landers said the industry’s role is important in fostering responsible digital engagement. “DDI reinforces AIGF’s commitment to responsible gaming and mental well-being and that this collaboration with the government is a crucial step toward setting a benchmark for the digital industry,” he said.
