The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has finalized model city logistics plans (CLPs) for Delhi and Bengaluru to enhance urban freight efficiency and reduce logistics costs, an official announced on Wednesday. The initiative is part of the Indo-German Green Freight Project, supported by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), which brought global best practices to the table.
These CLPs aim to address urban challenges such as congestion and pollution while improving logistics efficiency and quality of life in cities. "It’s a model plan that provides a framework for logistics management, and it can be adapted by Delhi, Bengaluru, or any other city," said Rajeev Singh Thakur, Additional Secretary at DPIIT. Both the Delhi and Karnataka governments have pledged their support for the initiative.
Insights from the development of these CLPs have been compiled into a set of guidelines to assist other Indian states and city authorities in creating their own plans for efficient freight and logistics movement.
The plans emphasize reducing urban logistics costs while promoting sustainable practices, marking a significant step toward modernizing India’s urban freight systems.
