BPCL has entered into an agreement with the Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) and Mumbai Port Sustainability Foundation (MPSF) to create a sustainable fuel ecosystem at Mumbai Port. This collaboration seeks to promote India's transition to cleaner energy, decrease greenhouse gas emissions, and aid climate change objectives. BPCL, MbPA, and MPSF stated on Thursday that they are dedicated to advancing sustainable practices in line with India's environmental goals.
BPCL Chairman and Managing Director, G. Krishnakumar said, “This MoU is consistent with BPCL’s plans towards a sustainable tomorrow...to achieve net zero emissions by 2040."
He added that supporting sustainable energy for the maritime sector reflects BPCL’s commitment to social responsibility.”
BPCL and MPSF are collaborating on developing systems for separating, storing, and managing both recyclable and non-recyclable solid waste at Mumbai Port. As a part of the effort, BPCL and MbPA will install Electric Vehicle (EV) charging points at Mumbai Port and investigate the possibility of converting ships running on diesel to more environmentally friendly fuels. The agreement also covers waste management initiatives, with a focus on recycling and waste reduction within the port.
BPCL's leadership in sustainable energy is showcased through this collaboration, with Mumbai Port being positioned as a flagship for environmentally responsible operations throughout India, according to the company.
