Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) won a ₹7,500 crore contract to build an 800 MW supercritical thermal power unit at Ukai Thermal Power Plant in Gujarat. The energy industry of India is experiencing a major shift as Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd (GSECL) delivers a critical order through global competitive bidding. The commercial operation of the unit is projected to begin within 54 months.
In addition to civil, structural, and electrical work, BHEL's scope of work encompasses the design, engineering, production, supply, testing, and commissioning of the whole EPC package. High-efficiency emission control systems will also be installed by the business to guarantee adherence to environmental laws. In order to maximize land utilization and meet Gujarat's increasing energy needs, the unit will be constructed on the site of an existing ash dam.
BHEL took part in Ukai's electricity supply history at the site after building its first thermal unit there in 1976. BHEL established its first thermal unit at the location in 1976 and now continues to provide essential power equipment services to India's nationwide total of 1,70,000 MW installed capacity.
Through this project, India advances its mission for a strong, sustainable power infrastructure while BHEL remains at the forefront of electricity equipment manufacturing and upholds its commitment to national energy independence.
