Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), makers of the popular 'Amul' brand, plans to set up a total dairy facility at ₹600 crore in Kolkata. Curd and dahi production: The biggest plant in the world, at the facility: 10 lakh kg per day, claims Jayen Mehta, MD of GCMMF.
This investment announcement is made at the second edition of the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) 2025, where proposals worth ₹4.40 lakh crore have poured into West Bengal. Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd, Anand, will develop the state-of-the-art dairy facility in two phases at Sankrail Food Park in Howrah.
"We will be setting up an integrated dairy plant in Kolkata, West Bengal. The new facility will have the world's largest curd manufacturing plant with a capacity of 10 lakh kg per day," Mehta told PTI.
The robust demand for dairy in West Bengal, particularly for curd types such as tok doi and mishti doi, has fueled Amul's growth. Presently, Amul leads the fresh milk market in Bengal, distributing more than 10 lakh liters daily. The firm also upholds a robust milk sourcing network across 14 districts, involving more than 1.2 lakh female milk producers.
This initiative aims to reinforce India's White Revolution 2.0 and advance GCMMF’s bold growth plan, which experienced an 8% revenue increase to ₹59,445 crore in FY24. The company aims to attain double-digit growth this year as well.
