Air India operates under Tata Group ownership as an airline that expanded its worldwide reach through its strategic codeshare agreement with Virgin Australia. The alliance allows Air India passengers to reserve a single entry to 16 Australian and New Zealand cities.
"The unilateral codeshare agreement enables Air India to place its 'AI' code on flights operated by Virgin Australia," the airline said in a statement. "This enhances the opportunities that Air India customers have when travelling from Delhi to Melbourne or Sydney and take seamless onward connections on Virgin Australia flights to 16 destinations."
The codeshare agreement connects passengers to travel on one ticket through 16 cities that consist of Adelaide, Ballina/Byron Bay, Brisbane, Cairns, Canberra, Darwin, Gold Coast, Hamilton Island, Hobart, Launceston, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, Sunshine Coast, Sydney (Australia), and Queenstown (New Zealand).
The airline operates 14 weekly India-Australia flights and daily non-stop Sydney and Melbourne flights from Delhi. Air India maintains its extensive international growth by entering into over 16 codeshare agreements as well as 100 interline agreements with airlines worldwide.
The latest aviation deal of Air India signifies the company's ongoing dedication to building worldwide reach by providing integrated travel arrangements with Kenya Airways.
