The second unit of the two 800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plants operated by Adani Power Jharkhand Limited (APJL), a fully owned subsidiary of Adani Power Ltd, has begun commercial operations in the Godda district of Jharkhand. On June 25, 2023, in the presence of representatives from the Power Grid Corporation of Bangladesh (PGCB) and the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), the second unit of the power plant's reliability run rest, including commercial operation tests, was completed.
The power plant's first unit, with a capacity of 800 MW, reached its commercial operations date on April 6. According to the PPA with BPDB signed in November 2017 and lasting 25 years, APJL would provide 1,496 MW net capacity power from 2X800 MW Godda USCTPP through a 400 kV dedicated transmission infrastructure connected to the Bangladesh grid.
"Godda power plant will act as a bridge of goodwill and usher in a new era in the complex and lengthy relations between India and Bangladesh." CEO of Adani Power Ltd. SB Khyalia remarked.
"Despite being impacted by three phases of Covid waves in India, China, and Bangladesh, and that too with timing mismatch, APJL built the Godda USCTPP along with a dedicated transmission line in a record time of about 3.5 years after its financial close. The Godda Project's Unit-1 reached COD on April 6, 2023, while Unit-2 reached COD on June 26, 2023, after a delay of almost 2.5 months, according to the CEO.
Along with a 40 MW solar power plant in Gujarat, Adani Power, a division of the diversified Adani Group, has installed thermal generating capacity of 15210 MW split among seven power plants in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh.
