Bharti Airtel has launched India’s first network-based, AI-powered spam detection solution to protect its customers from spam calls and messages. This innovative solution alerts customers in real time to suspected spam calls and SMSes and is automatically activated without requiring customers to make service requests or download any additional apps.
According to Gopal Vittal, Managing Director and CEO of Bharti Airtel, the solution was developed over the past year to address the growing issue of spam communications, marking a significant milestone for the company. The new system offers dual-layer protection by filtering spam at both the network and IT systems layers. This AI-driven process can analyze 1.5 billion messages and 2.5 billion calls every day in just 2 milliseconds, identifying 100 million potential spam calls and 3 million spam SMSs daily.
Airtel’s in-house data scientists developed a proprietary algorithm that analyzes various parameters like the caller’s usage patterns, frequency of calls/SMS, and call duration in real time, cross-referencing this data with known spam patterns. This ensures accurate identification and classification of communications as 'Suspected SPAM', providing a robust layer of protection for Airtel customers.
