Behind the growth of any industry, the need to build infrastructure is compulsory. With industrial revolution on full pace along with the make in India movement launched by the central government has accelerated the demand for construction in the country. Existing statistics reveal that the construction industry contributes to almost 9 percent of the overall GDP of the country and close to 52 million people earn their living from it.
It has been predicted that with the recent increase in demand, the construction sector is likely to create 16 million more jobs by the year of 2022. But no more are the old methods applicable to the set of skill needed to be a construction worker. A
lot of new technologies have been integrated into the process which needs expertise to get handled along with the right knowledge of the subject. Automation and Robotics are two of the main technologies that have revamped the atmosphere of the construction industry in a massive scale.
Now, there is a need for an individual to get accustomed with the technical know how’s of the technologies that are getting used in the construction sector. The person has to get educated about the implementations and acquire an advanced set of skills to become a part of it. It can be said that the upcoming generation can be expected to have the knowledge to work with modern technologies.
However, there are still deep rooted problems that loom at large and can become one of the barriers in development of the sector. A construction worker’s average income in India is close to 40 percent less than what is standard around the world. This brings us to the conclusion that unless the average income of a construction worker goes up, growth can’t be expected from the manpower involved for the sustenance of the industry.
The Construction Industry Development Council hat has been set up by the government of India along with the National Institute of Construction Management and Research are the two pillars that has been set up to look after the improvement in the productivity of construction and pulling them up the social chain.
