Uniqlo, Japan-based lifewear retail brand stepped into Indian market by launching the first store in Ambience Mall. The store is around 35,000 sq. ft. with over three floors. All the floors are open for public now. The company will venture two more stores in Sacket, DLF Avenue and DLF CyberHUb in the upcoming days.
ET reported Tadashi Yanai, Founder and Chairman of Uniqlo saying , “Launching ourselves in the Indian market is a step ahead towards globalization.
We aim to enhance lifestyles n India by creating more innovative apparel that draws on the distinct culture and traditions. We wish to contribute to India’s economic development process.”
He also added, “21st century will be the century of India. Fast Retailing has long wished to open stores in India, in view of the tremendous potential of the nation of 1.3 billion people that generates annual GDP growth of 7 percent and has an average of 27.”
Replying to ET’s query on Uniqlo’s recruitment in India he said “My curiosity about India goes beyond just business. India is a diverse market with many languages, ethnicities and history. Our focus will be to educate ourselves about the Indian consumers.”
The company was established in 1984 and currently operated in 23 countries with 2,200 stores. The brand encompasses winter wear for males, females and kids. It has collaborated with Rina Singh, Desiner whose speciality is kurta collection, which consists of tunics, dresses, pants and stoles in many colors?
